Stepping On is designed specifically for anyone who is 65 or older, has had a fall in the past year, is fearful of falling, lives at home and does not have dementia. This workshop will meet every Thursday from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. for seven weeks. Stepping On will teach exercises and strategies to help you prevent falls. Registration is required and class size is limited. For more information or to register for the workshop, please call SHDHD at 402-462-6211.

DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME begins SUNDAY, MARCH 11
Remember to turn your clocks ahead one hour. Also remember to change the batteries in your smoke detectors. Volunteers are available to help if you need assistance with changing batteries. Call Kathy at 402-463-4439 ext. 14 to arrange for volunteer help. Note: The Hastings Fire Department has advised us that the recommendation is to change batteries once a year or if they start beeping.

WINTER WEATHER POLICY
If Hastings is under threat of a winter snow or ice storm, if streets are dangerous to drive on, or if wind chills are in the sub-zero range, be sure to watch NTV Channel 13 (the Kearney Station) or listen to KHAS Radio (located at 1230 AM on the radio dial) to confirm that ACSS meals and other services have been cancelled. If you are registered for a day the meal is cancelled, your name will remain on the list for the next serving day. The missed menu will carry over to the next day. Please call (402) 463-4439 Ext. 11 by 9:30 a.m. on the new serving day if you wish to cancel.
On a winter weather related topic: Snow and ice can increase the chance for falls. Please, please, please be careful. Stay at home and stay safe if it is too icy out. It is ACSS Policy to call 911 should a fall occur. EMTs will be called to assess the situation and provide lift assist.

HOMESTEAD TAX EXEMPTION
January is the month to start thinking about homestead tax exemption, which can help reduce your property taxes. Medical expenses are taken into account when determining eligibility. Call your County Assessor's Office at (402) 461-7116 to apply. You will need your 2017 tax information. Applications will be accepted from February 1-June 30.

HEARING AID BATTERIES
